Layout Construction – December 2009

December was a busy month with my Mom’s funeral and Christmas. My mom’s burial in Lewistown gave me a chance to see parts of the Northern Line of the Milwaukee.

Lewistown Depot (Yogo)-1940
This is a view of the Lewistown depot around 1940. The depot was closed after the last passenger train ran in August of 1955. The depot was purchased by the Lewistown Community Hotel Company in 1963 and renovated to become part of the Yogo Inn. The depot was constructed in 1913 as part of the expansion of the Milwaukee Road into northern Montana. A 137 miles of track was laid to Great Falls in 1914.
The time frame I am modeling of the Northern Montana line, the depot should be the Yogo Inn. This structure has so much interesting detail, I will be modeling it as a depot. The opportunity to be in Lewistown gave me the chance to photograph the detail not visible on the photo above. Her are some of the photos I captured of the detail.

This my interpretation of the depot I will be building. The structure will be shorten to fit the layout better as the original structure is too large.
